Grant Opportunity for Restaurants Impacted by Grease Trap Mandate

One of the most impactful achievements of the past year has been the continued success and evolution of the Plymouth Area One Fund, a critical initiative that underscores the Chamber’s unwavering commitment to supporting local businesses through challenging times.

In response to recent regulatory changes, the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the creation of a special application process within the Plymouth Area One Fund, specifically designed to assist restaurants affected by the new grease trap bylaw. This targeted funding opportunity ensures that businesses facing unforeseen costs can receive the support they need to remain compliant and continue to thrive.

“This is a shining example of how the Chamber listens and responds to the unique challenges our members face,” said Amy Naples, Executive Director of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce. “We know this mandate has placed a financial burden on many of our local restaurants, and we’re proud to offer direct relief through the One Fund.”

Purpose: This application is intended for restaurants that have been impacted by the recent mandate requiring the installation of grease traps. This initiative reflects the Plymouth Area One Fund’s ongoing commitment to standing beside our small businesses and helping to ease the financial strain caused by evolving public health regulations.

Background: The Plymouth Public Health Division has mandated that all restaurants connected to the town sewer line must install state-approved, flow-appropriate indoor automatic grease traps or a minimum 2,000-gallon external grease trap. This initiative is designed to prevent food waste and grease from entering and damaging the town’s sewer infrastructure, a growing concern in recent years.

Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for grant assistance through the Plymouth Area One Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1.      Location: Restaurant must be connected to the town sewer line.

2.      Installation Requirement: Must have installed a state-approved, flow-appropriate indoor automatic grease trap or a minimum 2,000-gallon external grease trap.

3.      Proof of Installation: Must provide receipts, invoices, or other documentation verifying that the work has been completed.

4.      Compliance: Must show evidence that the installation complies with the Plymouth Public Health Division’s mandate.

Grant applications are now available through the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Funding will be awarded as available and based on eligibility.
